Description
|
||||||||||
The course S.ESP310 is
an essential course for students studying specific professional contexts
i.e.: Power Engineering, Electronics, Mining Processing, Construction
Management, Software Computing, Mechanical engineering, Geology and
surveying, Food processing technology etc.
The main objectives of
this level is to develop students’ skills and knowledge of the language for
special purposes so that they can comprehend English and express themselves
in various professional contexts. Texts and dialogues are based on analysis
of the future job needs and interests of science and technology specialists.

Learning Outcome
|
||||||||||
At the end of the
course knowledge of the students will reach upper intermediate level. The aim
of the English Language proficiency of the students is between 400-450 TOEFL
scores or 400-600 of TOEIC.
2.1. Reading
Based on the tasks
given by the teacher, students will be able to determine main ideas, develop
their vocabulary and translate the texts which are written in different kind
of science fields. Lexical
competence of the students will be increased during the course.
2.2. Writing
At this stage a
student will write essays, reviews and reports where they will write their
ideas, and information with the correct grammar and spelling. Students of
this level will practice technical English writing that includes collection
of information, planning, drafting, editing and proofreading. The length of
writing passages will include 150-200 words.
2.3. Speaking
Based on their vocabulary and
grammar knowledge students will be able to express their opinions, make oral
presentations at an intermediate level. Speaking fluency at this level will
be measured by compulsory non-memorized presentations and spontaneous class
discussions.
2.4. Listening
Students of this level
listen to extended discourse, such as monologues, narratives and interviews, taking telephone messages, note taking and
summarizing. The recordings will contain both scripted and unscripted
conversations with natural pauses, hesitations and interruptions that occur
in real speech.
2.5. Translation
Students will
translate texts connected with their specialties from English into Mongolian
and vice versa. Oral and written forms of translation will be
practiced at this level. Translation practice will increase the vocabulary
and terms of the students.
